KesPA recognizes Dota 2 as official eSport in Korea with the Korean Dota 2 League

Things seem to be going well for Dota 2 in Korea, as the Korean eSports Association (KeSPA) now recognizes Dota 2 as an official eSport in the country. In fact, they are now working with Nexon and SPO TV in organizing a number of amateur and professional leagues.

From January 24 to February 3, teams can begin to register for the Korean Dota League, which consist of three separate tiers. The third and lowest tier will consist of purely amateur teams; tier two is made up of six teams of both amateurs and professionals; while tier one will be made up of four professional teams that will eventually face each other for the league’s biggest prizes. The top tier one team will receive a cash prize of 5 million Won (about $4,700) while the top tier two team will receive a cash prize of 2 million Won ($1,900). Teams can be promoted or demoted depending on their performance. More information can be found on Inven.

There will be four seasons for the league this year with the first season kicking off on February 9, and streamed on YouTube, Naver, Tving, and AfreecaTV. The schedule will be roughly as follows:

  • Season 1: February to March
  • Season 2: April to June
  • Season 3: July to September
  • Season 4: October to December

Matches will take place every Wednesday, 19:00 KST (18:00 SGT) and Sunday, 15:00 KST (13:00 SGT). More information will be posted on Dota 2 Korea’s official website.
