Legal woes, police reports trail woman linked to ex-Foodpanda CEO’s exit

Jakob Angele, Foodpanda’s longtime CEO, stepped down in October under a cloud of controversy that involved his former girlfriend, Rebekah Rankine.

In public Instagram posts that included screenshots of her conversations with Angele, Rankine claimed that he was forced to leave his post for leaking information about the food delivery firm’s potential sale to super app Grab.

In an earlier post, however, Rankine herself had revealed that a deal was in the works. Her Instagram account has since been set to private.

Tech in Asia understands that her posts violated a court order that Angele had obtained against her days before the news broke. The order prohibited Rankine from speaking out publicly about him.

The story, however, doesn’t end there. After Tech in Asia’s report about the possible sale was published, people who claimed to be not associated with Angele reached out to us, alleging that they were victimized by Rankine.

Tech in Asia’s investigation confirmed that Rankine has had police reports and court cases filed against her from as far back as 2021.

Also, we found that the episode with Angele wasn’t the first time that she had involved the other party’s employers in disputes. In one incident we could verify, she made an allegation about an acquaintance directly with their employer.

These incidents didn’t just happen in Singapore, as Rankine often traveled between the city-state and London. Tech in Asia also found that she has held human resources positions at various companies, including at least one internet firm.

Rankine’s accusers, many of whom are part of expat communities, paint her as a social and magnetic fitness enthusiast whom they befriended, only to regret it later.

In response to Tech in Asia’s queries, Rankine said she did not know about the police reports and court cases that were filed against her. However, she stopped replying to us after we sent her a message that outlined details from one of the cases.

Accusations in London and Singapore

In the UK, multiple police reports were filed against Rankine in 2022 over allegations of stolen and damaged property as well as harassment, according to an email to the police that Tech in Asia saw. One of these reports was dropped by the police as she did not have a permanent address in the country.

Rankine was involved in at least three separate incidents in Singapore.
