Like Fifa and Asphalt? In India there's a gaming tournament for that. On tablets.

Intel and Univercell, a prominent mobile store chain in India, have announced a two-week gaming event featuring Fifa 14 and Asphalt 8 Airborne on Android tablets. The Tablet Gaming Championship powered by Intel, is not just a mouthful of a name; it will also have gamers jostling for two tablets with Intel processors.

The Tablet Gaming Championship kicks off on July 14 in Mumbai and Bangalore across 25 Univercell stores. It will last two weeks. Intel and Univercell have acknowledged that the two cities are strong markets for gaming. It marks another move from the processor giant in the mobile space, what with partnering with a host of original equipment manufacturers such Lenovo and Asus.

With the device penetration in India under ten percent and regulatory issues in the first half of the year preventing a steady supply of tablets, initiatives like the Tablet Gaming Championship are Intel and Univercell’s first steps to picking up the slack.
