Lightspeed, Learn Capital join Indian edtech startup’s $16.5m round

“Edtech startup Teachmint has raised US$16.5 million in its series A round from new and existing investors. This is the third round for the Bengaluru-based startup, which was launched exactly a year ago,” reported Entrackr, citing regulatory filings.

Details:

  • US-based early-stage VC firm Learn Capital led the round with an investment of US$12 million.
  • Existing investors Lightspeed India and Better Capital also participated in the round, pouring in US$3.1 million and US$406,000 respectively into the Indian edtech firm. Other investors include MV Opportunities Fund and AngelList.

Context:

  • Launched in May 2020, Teachmint enables offline tutors to digitize their classrooms and engage online with existing students as well as reach out to more users. The company mentions on its website that it has over 500,000 tutors across 1,200 towns and cities in India.
  • Last October, Teachmint raised US$3.5 million in a seed round led by Lightspeed India. With the latest round of funding, the company has raised a total of US$20 million, to date.
