Lightning versus Snow, Noel, and Caisus in in-game battle clips

Over the past couple days, Square Enix Japan has been releasing a series of four minute clips that show off Lightning in battle. So far the clips show her facing off with Noel Kreiss, Caisus Ballad, and most recently Snow Villiers. These videos do actually give away more of the story than I’d like, so in the interest of remaining as spoiler-free as possible, I’ll just simply introduce the clips.

In this first battle clip we see Noel Kreiss, the cocky-but-lovable time traveler from Final Fantasy XIII-2, swinging his blade in the face of our heroine Lightning. Noel has always been protective of Lightning’s sister, so why are they fighting? What we will tell you is that Noel seems to be lost in a pit of despair and doesn’t care if he takes another life. Lightning sees this and yet provokes him to go all out.

In the second battle clip, we see Lightning up against Caisus Ballad, the main antagonist from Final Fantasy XIII-2. Not much can be said without spoiling the back story, but Caisus comes off as a total badass in this clip. Enjoy.

In this third battle clip we find a very depressed Snow Villiers, protagonist in both Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2, willing to throw everything away and entering a vortex called the Chaos Infusion. This turns Snow into a mindless Cie’th hybrid that Lightning must then fight.

These clips are just a small sampling of the epic game scheduled to be released February 11, 2014 on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
