When I did my review of XCOM: Enemy Within, I promised that I’d talk more about the game’s multiplayer at a later date once I had gotten a chance to play it a bit more. Now I’ve put quite a few hours into the multiplayer both in public matches and in private matches with a friend of mine who’s also an XCOM fanatic. I figured it was time to put together a little Let’s Play video to show off what the multiplayer can do. (If you don’t know the basics of XCOM already, you may want to watch my single player video first).
It’s worth pointing out that although the game is much less buggy than it was before the Enemy Within expansion, my friend and I did have some trouble connecting initially the first time we played the game. The cause for this, we discovered after experimentation, is that we had both opted into different betas on Steam for the game. Once we both opted out of all betas (which you can only do with the game closed), we were able to connect to each other without any further issues.
So I’ll say it one last time: if you don’t have this game already, I can’t recommend it highly enough. The original (XCOM: Enemy Unknown) is likely to be available at a discount when the Steam holiday sale rolls around in a couple weeks, so that would be a great time to pick it and the Enemy Within expansion up and experience the fun for the first time if you’ve never tried it before.
