Tech in Asia Tour hits Hanoi; here’s why you should go

The Tech in Asia Tour is coming to Hanoi next, and we promise a good time. The tour is where our team seeks out Asia’s rising startups to join our Tech in Asia Singapore conference. Hear pitches from handpicked startups, listen to investors who’ll share their insights, meet new people, and catch up with old friends. If nothing else, at least there’s the food.

Three investors will join us on stage for a fireside chat. These guys don’t just talk the walk, they’ve been immersed in the startup ecosystem as investors or entrepreneurs – or both.

We’ll have Nguyen Ngoc Diep, CEO of Vat Gia and an angel investor, Quan Nguyen, venture partner of Inspire Ventures and the former director of technology and product development at Vietnamworks, Ronnie Wee, founder and managing partner of Incuvest, and Ben Liu of investment management firm Kamia. Together they will discuss the art of running a startup and fundraising in Asia.

You won’t just hear from these guys at the event. Learn the art of the pitch as five startups take the stage to impress the investors. Speakers

Nguyen Ngoc Diep, CEO of Vat Gia and angel investor

Nguyen is the founder of Vat Gia, a company that is well known for its B2B and B2C e-commerce sites and has played a decisive role in making e-commerce acceptable and widespread in Vietnam. He started the company in 2006 after a trip to Japan and observed how ecommerce sites there have grown. Today, it is one of Vietnam’s largest ecommerce companies.

Quan Nguyen, venture partner at Inspire Ventures

Quan leads Inspire’s venture coverage of the technology and communications spaces. He is strategically based in Vietnam where the early stage technology start-up ecosystem is in rapid development.

Quan brings to Inspire his broad and in-depth experience as both an entrepreneur and senior executive with several successful start-up companies in the ASEAN region. First, as Director of Technology and Marketing at Vietnamworks.com, Vietnam’s leading online recruitment company, Quan played a key role in the company’s early success as a first mover in Vietnam’s fast moving jobs space. Later, he launched one of Vietnam’s first social networks YoBanBe which he exited to VinaGame and later was rebranded Zing.vn which is today the largest domestic portal and social network in Vietnam. Quan also founded Notch Digital which he exited via merger in 2013 with Riverorchid to create Indochina’s premier digital agency network, Riverorchid Notch.

Most recently, Quan was general operations head for the development and launch of US based messaging and social planning mobile app, Klamr. Throughout, Quan continues to actively advise, mentor, and develop the Vietnam venture capital ecosystem.

Ben Liu, director of Kamia

Ben Liu joined KAMIA as a Director in 2014 where he facilitated new investments in the Internet and IoT space along with advising portfolio companies. Mr. Liu started his career as an Investment Banker at Merrill Lynch and then went on to receive his MBA from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China. After receiving his MBA, Mr. Liu entered the Venture Capital industry where he held the position of Investment Manager at Pac-LINK Capital. Prior to joining KAMIA, Mr. Liu was Vice President at Xcelerate Ltd, where he spearheaded the concept development and implementation of multiple startup businesses.

Ronnie Wee, founder and managing partner of Incuvest

Ronnie has 20+ years in consulting, startups, angel investment, financial services, government, telco and technology. He started his career with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) focusing primarily in Technology Solutions in Financial Services, Telecommunications and Government sectors. Ronnie was the founder of PlaNET Technology Solutions, a software and solutions company, which was eventually sold to Singapore-listed Datacraft Asia.

He was also involved in several startups throughout Asia, one of which was successfully listed on the NASDAQ second board. A co-founder of Sirius Angel Fund, a $20m angel fund co-investing with the Singapore Government in innovative, early stage companies, Ronnie continues his work in partnering, assisting and investing in innovative companies, as well as position Singapore as a hub for innovation and development through IncuVest.
