Harmony loses crypto worth $100m after security breach

Blockchain platform Harmony said that a security breach has resulted in the theft of cryptocurrencies worth nearly US$100 million, CoinDesk reported.

Hackers targeted the Horizon bridge, which enables users to exchange digital assets between Harmony’s blockchain network and Binance Smart Chain.

The breach, however, did not impact the Bitcoin bridge and Harmony noted that its funds and assets were secure.

“We have also notified exchanges and stopped the Horizon bridge to prevent further transactions,” the firm said in a series of tweets, It also promised to keep everyone updated as it continues with the investigation.

In March, play-to-earn game Axie Infinity suffered a similar security breach, which led to a loss of 173,600 ether and about US$25.5 million in USDC stable coins.

Sky Mavis, the Vietnam-based developer of Axie Infinity, said it would refund affected users on June 28.
