Osome faces heat from customers following staff exits, layoffs

Collin Furtado also reported on this story.

“I’m really pissed with these guys,” Rowena (not her real name), a tech founder, tells Tech in Asia about her experience with Singapore-based online accounting firm Osome.

Rowena incurred penalties with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority and blames Osome for failing to submit her filings on time. Other customers Tech in Asia spoke with recalled similar experiences.

That said, the fines they incurred were eventually repaid by Osome.

These are not the only complaints faced by the startup. Over 90 negative reviews have been left on Google and Trustpilot about poor experiences with Osome in 2023, although reviewers on these sites don’t have to prove that they are customers.

Founded in 2017 by Victor Lysenko, Osome provides accounting, reporting, company formation, and other business management services to SMEs with the help of AI.

Customers submit relevant documents such as invoices and bills through the Osome platform, after which all bookkeeping, filing, and reporting of financials are taken care of.

The company aims to “enable entrepreneurs to solve society’s problems by removing the distraction of routine tasks and paperwork.”

However, since the end of 2022, Osome has been seeing a spike in customer complaints about missing important filing deadlines, culminating in these users suffering penalties from regulatory agencies.

Customers also complained about the company making document or signature requests at the last minute.

One of the biggest reasons for these issues is the several employee exits that Osome experienced from December 2022 to mid-2023, the company tells Tech in Asia.
