iOS-exclusive Chain of Souls, Konami’s newest card battle RPG, has just been announced for Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, among other countries. The dark fantasy connecting-chain puzzle game was developed in Singapore and is scheduled for a “near future” release, according to a press statement by Konami.
The free-to-play game’s puzzle mechanic will have players connecting three or more gems of the same color. Completing a minimum chain of three gems allows you to jump to a different color. Chaining color combos increases the damage dealt to your opponent. If a player reaches three or more continuous chains, he can use card skills.
The game cards that have been revealed feature mythical creatures and (mostly) scantily-clad females. Like any game with a card collection element, these cards can be combined with each other to produce even stronger cards.
As a lead-up to Chain of Souls’ launch, Konami is presently offering a scratch-card campaign, where players will receive the three star ‘Ariel Elven Queen’ card on top of an unlimited number of attempts to earn themselves another rare via scratch-card. Players will receive their other rare card only after they confirm it, so they can choose to scratch out more cards. The only catch is that you will need to share your attempts on social media every six scratches, but that’s not a bad trade off at all.
Chain of Souls will also be launching in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Spain, Australia, and Brazil.
UPDATE 05-03-2014: Players get an unlimited number of tries for their 2nd rare card in the scratch-card campaign. The article has been updated to reflect this.
