TikTok parent eyes comeback in India

Chinese internet titan ByteDance is looking to reenter India via a new partnership, reported The Economic Times citing sources.

The company, which owns short video app TikTok, is in talks with Mumbai-based real estate player Hiranandani Group and looks to hire employees in the country.

The real estate firm runs data center operations in the country and has entered the consumer services business under Tez Platforms.

The Indian government had permanently banned the TikTok app in January last year amid geopolitical tensions. ByteDance had later shut down its other offerings such as SnapSolve and Helo.

The government has already been informally told about the ByteDance partnership but there have been no formal talks yet.
