Square Enix has 'given very high priority' to Final Fantasy XV, may feature bigger battles and old combat mechanics

In an interview with VideoGamer.com, series producer Yoshinori Kitase mentioned that Final Fantasy XV has been ‘given a very high priority’ by Square Enix and that it is now ‘quite far into development’. In fact, Kitase shared his thoughts on how the capabilities of the PlayStation 4 and the XBOX One can contribute to the improvement of future titles.

Having a lot more characters, a lot more things happening, that’s one of the things that the new hardware does really well, so to maybe make a battle system for a Final Fantasy game or a future game that fits with that, I think it would be quite good to have more characters for the player to control and more participants in the battle.

Kitase also suggests bringing back and recreating old game mechanics such as Final Fantasy XII’s Gambit System or Final Fantasy XIII’s Paradigm Shift.

It doesn’t necessarily [mean] that something that we’ve used before is now invalid and can’t be used, there’s certainly a possibility of taking it and bringing it back.

Judging by the trailer, how do you think old battle systems will work into this new title? Here’s the video, in case you haven’t seen it yet:

Final Fantasy XV was first announced in 2006 and for eight years, little has been known about the game. Now, although nothing is said to be final yet, at least fans would be delighted to know that development for the game is moving forward with very high priority from the company.
