Is Tyler Projects moving into mobile casual games?

The last time we wrote about Leonard Lin of games development company Tyler Projects was three years ago, when he talked about his successful Battle Stations Facebook game which has seen user base double in two years. With the help of virtual goods, the game was able to make half a million for the company in its first year of operations.

Another three years on, we find that the ground has shifted. Following Facebook’s IPO, shareholders are fretting over the social network’s ability to make money on mobile. Smartphone and tablet ecosystems have come into their own, and mobile apps have become a big area of opportunity.

The Singapore-based Tyler Projects appears to be changing with the times as well. While Leonard has not revealed to us his exact plans for the company yet, he showed us some of the stuff he’s working on.

One of them is Pix Blitz, a free game that generates puzzles from the photos on your device. Each puzzle is completed when gamers swap the tiles to get the unscrambled picture. As players progress, more tiles are introduced to make the puzzle more challenging.

The game is still in beta, which means their viral features aren’t ready. Leonard is looking at launching Android, Japanese and Mandarin versions.

Ricochet Battle

Another mobile game project that the company has worked on is Ricochet Battle, another iPhone puzzle game where players attempt to hit targets using a bouncy cannon ball and assorted power-ups.

The company’s website shows that a third title, BS: Treasure Hunter, is on the way.

While it will take some time before Tyler Projects fine tune the game mechanics and hit upon the right formula for a breakaway hit on the iPhone, we’re guessing that with the money they’re making off of existing games, they’ll have a lengthy-enough runway to experiment, fail fast, and succeed.
