Is Blizzard brawler Heroes of the Storm the game for you?

We’ve all heard of Heros of the Storm, Blizzard’s upcoming brawler that was once named Blizzard All-Stars. But now, following a name change and a public alpha, it’s clear that Heroes of the Storm isn’t a MOBA as we have expected, but more of the brawler that Blizzard has marketed it as.

There are several things—several things integral to the MOBA meta game—that have been excluded from Heroes of the Storm. Seasoned MOBA players think this to be a “dumbing down” of the genre’s competitive aspect; casual players think it’s going to be a great game to get started in on the MOBA genre. Basically, every gamer has his or her own opinion of Heroes of the Storm. The question is, what’s yours? Are you going to be playing Heroes of the Storm when public beta hits?

If you’re undecided, let us help you:

Heroes of the Storm is for you if…

You want to brawl without bother with items or builds.

Heroes has no gold. With no gold, it has no items. With no items, it has no item builds you need to care for. With the game distilled down to its purest form: brawling, players can focus on the actual fighting. That’s not to say it’s just hacking and slashing, though. Strategy is more than important in Heroes because…

You’re adventurous in problem solving

While you do have to destroy the opposing team’s base to win the game in Heroes, each map also has its own sideline meta that simplifies the pushing strategy dilemma common to Dota 2.

For instance, rather than just base-rushing, the Haunted Mines map allows players to collect randomly spawning tributes in order to bring a curse upon the opposing team. The curse halves tower defenses and slashes enemy minion hitpoints to a grand total of one, making it easier for your team to push.

In the DragonShire map, capping shrines in the top and bottom lane gives your team control over a siege-tank-like Dragon Knight built specially for destroying structures.
