The History and Growth of Mobile [VIDEO]

In 2010, mobile subscribers surpassed 5 billion. That’s equivalent to 70 percent of the world’s population with a mobile phone. Out of these 5 billion subscribers, about 15 percent are from China. The growth and potential are simply amazing.

The video started off with a brief history of mobile and slowly moved on to showcase its explosive growth. Several revolutionary products had made history with the rise of mobile. Motorola RAZR phone was one of the best selling phones ever with over 110 million units sold over 4 years.

The introduction of Apple’s iPhone in 2007 had also played a huge role in smartphone growth. So far, over 60 million iPhones were sold. It was also estimated that more than half of the companies had deployed iPhones for work purposes in 2010. Android was introduced one year later and had been a great success too. 160,000 new Android smartphones were being activated each day.

Then came applications. High demand for smartphones also increased the demand for mobile applications. In 2009, $4.2 billion was spent on mobile applications. This figure was predicted to increase to $29.5 billion by 2013. We can expect more mobile applications to be created to ride the smartphone wave. Tap Tap, WhatsApp, Instagram and Angry Birds are some successful ones so far.
