Invictus Gaming (iG) has proved that history doesn’t always repeat itself by winning a best-of-seven series with a 4-1 victory against Team DK in the WPC-ACE League 2013 grand finals. This win follows iG’s loss last year to Team DK, who beat iG in a 4-3 comeback victory. Team Newbee placed third in this tournament after defeating Alliance, who in turn finished fourth.

IG will be going home with ¥1,000,000 ($163,000) while Team DK will take home ¥300,000 ($49,000). Newbee and Alliance will be receiving ¥100,000 ($16,000) and ¥50,000 ($8,000) respectively while the remaining four teams Vici Gaming, Titan, Cloud 9, and Dream Time will receive ¥20,000 ($3,200) each.
Alliance dominated the Chinese scene in the G-1 League last year, but failed to deliver the same results this year. Team DK, who is one of the top favorites to win The International 2014 (TI4), performed below expectations in the WPC-ACE League 2014 grand final. With TI4 drawing closer, many are speculating if these results are a glimpse of what’s to come, or if the losses are camouflaging something else. At the end of the day, whether teams are indeed keeping pocket strategies or are breaking under pressure can only be answered on this year’s grandest Dota 2 stage of them all.
