Interviewstreet Helps You Screen and Hire Developers

Finding and hiring good developers is a common problem in the tech industry. The process can be very costly and unpredictable for companies in need of competent coders. To make things neat and friendly, India-based start-up Interviewstreet created a platform to help companies screen and hire quality developers.

“We have a codechecker which tests the real programming skills of the candidates before proceeding for an interview,” explained Vivek Ravisankar, co-founder of Interviewstreet. In other words, companies that employ Interviewstreet’s platform can be sure that potential engineers meet a certain level of competency before meeting their prospective new hires.

These programming tests are provided by the companies, while Interviewstreet’s codechecker will assess the code to evaluate the candidate’s skills.

Ravisankar revealed that there are currently more than 50 paying customers including Internet giants like Amazon and Facebook. These companies pay for every candidate who takes the test on Interviewstreet.

Ravisankar, together with Harishankaran, first started Interviewstreet as a mock interview platform for job seekers to practice their interview skills. However, after nine months, the idea didn’t take off and they decided to change their direction. The nine months weren’t wasted though. Ravisankar said that the experience has helped them understand the pain that most companies go through when screening and hiring developers.

Most hire based on a candidate’s past experience, which may not be an accurate indication of their current skill set and knowledge.

Both Ravisankar and Harishankaran used to build a lot of web applications back in their college days – Interviewstreet is one of those, and one in which they saw potential. So they took time to nurture and market it, and pivot themselves to success. It’s yet another start-up success story in India. While you’re reading this, many of the tech start-up founders in India are programming their way to success.
