Taiwan-based AppWorks has appointed Sophie Chiu as principal to lead the VC firm’s newly established Southeast Asia arm.
Before joining AppWorks in 2020, Chiu served as vice president at private investment management firm Neuberger Berman. She was also a research associate at Credit Suisse and JP Morgan.
Jamie Lin, partner at AppWorks, said the appointment comes after Chiu’s role in expanding the VC firm’s presence in Southeast Asia. “Given her dedication and achievements, it is only natural that she assumes this significant role as we further strengthen our efforts in the region,” he added.
According to a previous post from Chiu, which highlighted AppWorks’ investment in Indonesia’s EdenFarm, her appointment as principal came earlier this year.

Founded in 2009, AppWorks runs a six-month free accelerator program. It currently boasts 472 active startups and 1,522 founders in its alumni network. The company said its ecosystem has raised a total of US$5.4 billion in funding to reach a total valuation of US$31.5 billion.
