InMobi has just announced its new office in Thailand. In fact, before the expansion, it was already serving ads in Thailand. InMobi says that it served two billion mobile ad impressions in Q4 2011, which was a whopping six times more than it served in Q4 2010. Apparently both InMobi and the mobile market in Thailand are growing rapidly.
InMobi also suggests that there are increasingly more smartphone users in Thailand. 43 percent of ad impressions served in Q4 2011 were on smartphones, a tenfold increase over the same period in 2010. According to InMobi’s stats, Nokia is still the leading handset in Thailand, followed by Samsung and Apple.
Growth and expansions are coming quick and fast, especially after its $200 million in funding from Softbank. The India-based mobile ad network has expanded to China and forged a partnership with Detikcom in Indonesia most recently.
Besides online mobile ads, InMobi is also pushing Smartpay, its own mobile payment system which unfortunately only works with carrier billing for now. Smartpay also recently partnered with Opera to bring the mobile payment system onto the Opera Mini mobile browser.
