Shopee Indonesia teams up with Traveloka for plane tickets
Shopee Indonesia has announced a partnership with Jakarta-headquartered unicorn Traveloka that will allow users to purchase airplane tickets within the Shopee app.
The tickets available for purchase draw from the travel-booking firm’s inventory, Caesar Indra, senior vice president of business development at Traveloka, told Tech in Asia.

Indra also mentioned that the service has been available in the Shopee Indonesia app since April of this year. He also claimed that by using Traveloka’s booking system, issuing a ticket through Shopee takes no longer than one minute. Customers would also be able to request for additional baggage allowances through the app.
Refunds upon request are also carried out after about 14 days, Shopee said.
With the move, both Traveloka and Shopee Indonesia look to expand both of their userbases, according to Indra.
Singapore-based Shopee is fast becoming a giant in Southeast Asia’s ecommerce space.
A company spokesperson said in an earnings call late last year that Shopee is “the largest player not just in Southeast Asia, but particularly in Indonesia.” The company, which operates in six countries in the region and Taiwan, claimed that it fulfilled 63.7 million orders in Indonesia for the third quarter of 2018.
