Midjourney, a generative AI program that creates images based on user input, is reportedly launching a beta test for its official Chinese version. The firm has struck a deal to host the program on QQ, Tencent’s instant messaging platform and web portal.
The news was first reported by Pandaily.
In a statement posted on QQ, Midjourney said that China-based users who want to try its services may do so every Monday and Friday at 6 p.m. Beijing time. The company will close off the platform for the day once a certain number of people are using it.
The statement, however, was removed later.
Besides image generation, Midjourney’s tech also enables users to modify and enlarge images and save them in personal galleries. However, some of its features are only available to subscribers, according to the company’s statement.
Outside China, the platform is available through an open beta, which people could join by getting into Midjourney’s official Discord server. Its services are similar to those of Stable Diffusion and OpenAI’s DALL-E.
