Chinaccelerator, the 90-day seed stage investment accelerator program that runs twice a year in Shanghai, has appointment Indonesia-based Systec Group’s Wempy Dyocta Koto as one of its global mentors.

Systec is a VC firm focused on digital investments in the archipelago that serve the local market.

Koto is a well-known figure in Southeast Asia. According to Koto, he was named by Fortune as one of Indonesia’s “40 Under 40″ recently. He also currently sits on the board of advisors for Kalibrr, the first Filipino startup to be admitted into Y Combinator (Disclosure: Y Combinator also invests in Tech in Asia. See our ethics page).

Startups that gain entry into Chinaccelerator receive US$30,000 in seed funding, residence at the accelerator’s campus in Shanghai, three months of mentorship, and the chance to pitch to angel investors and VCs at the end of the program during a demo day.

“Wempy has global experience across Europe, Asia, North America, and Australia, working with international brands such as Microsoft, American Express, Sony, Citigroup, and Samsung,” says program director Todd Embley.

Chinaccelerator’s sixth batch of startups, including Bootdev, Clawz, TQSurvey, Kliptap, Fancy Cellar, and Zhu-Lou, graduated at the end of last year. According to Chinaccelerator, companies in its portfolio often go on to raise an additional US$1.5 million in capital after the acceleration program. This funding round is usually led by SOSventures, the VC fund that also backs Chinaccelerator.

Koto hopes that his new position at Chinaccelerator can help startups in Indonesia. “I am the first Indonesian invited as a mentor and our common aspirations are to commence building new economic, startup, and investment bridges between Chinaccelerator and the Indonesian market,” says Koto.
