Indonesia made a 21 percent leap in the number of internet users this year, a new report by marketing agency We are Social revealed.

While that growth is slightly above global average, it’s nothing to write home about.
India saw a growth rate of a whopping 90 percent. Both countries have a similar overall internet penetration of about 35 percent. So Indonesia isn’t hitting the population ceiling, like most developed countries. It’s doing a worse job than India in getting those still cut off from the grid online.

BBM dethroned
According to this report Facebook is the archipelago’s most popular social network, at 88 million active users, up from 79 million in January.
This should worry Blackberry Messenger (BBM). Indonesia is its last remaining stronghold.
In last year’s We are Social report, BBM came up as the top active social platform in a survey.

From We are Social’s previous report released in January 2016.
BBM also always ranked top in the Playstore, but it’s now been replaced by WhatsApp.
It’s a man’s world
