Indonesia’s Telkom Launches Mobile Chat App, Aims to Improve Connectivity

Indonesia’s largest telecommunications company, PT. Telkom Indonesia is planning to launch a mobile chat application called Flexi Messenger.

With this application, Telkom hopes to expand its customer base from a 20% target increase to 30%. The company currently boasts 18 million subscribers.

Towards that end Telkom will make improvements to FlexiNet’s network in 10 major cities, namely Jakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Banjarmasin, Makassar, Denpasar, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Pekanbaru and Medan. The base transceiver stations in those cities will be installed with new technology to provide faster internet service.

As a country that is still developing communications technology, the steps taken by Telkom are encouraging, considering the needs of the country. Internet service in Indonesia still leaves much to be desired.

But that does not diminish the spirit of Indonesia’s young generation who are increasingly developing a variety of applications and digital media technologies. Hopefully with the communications improvements launched by Telkom, Indonesians can enjoy better connectivity and a mobile network equal to or better than its Asian neighbors.
