- The gaming chief said it was time for a new generation of global gaming companies to emerge out of China. He added that in the first five months of the year, game developers and operators based in the country had seen their market shares in Japan and the US climb to 23% and 22%, respectively, up by 4% and 5%.
Dive deeper:
- In March, ByteDance acquired Moonton Technology, the creator of the popular mobile game Mobile Legends, at a US$4 billion valuation.
- One of ByteDance’s games, the pirate-themed One Piece: The Voyage, became China’s fifth-largest mobile game by revenue in May, according to a list compiled by app-tracking firm CNG. The game was ByteDance’s first title to break into the top 10 list.
