Geisha Launched Its New Album Through A Live-Streaming Concert

For the first time in Indonesia, a national music band Geisha has launched its new album “Meraih Bintang” through online live-streaming concert and radio. People can enjoy the concert by accessing MusikKamu.com or listening to Prambors radio network that spreads around 8 cities in Indonesia. I caught the online concert  and in my opinion, it was a huge success.

One of the reasons behind the success has to be Geisha’s huge number of fans on social media. There is a combined number of 280,000 fans on two of its Facebook pages and over 250,000 users following Narova Morina Sinaga (@MoMo_GEISHA), the band’s vocalist, on Twitter. The organizer was targeting around 100,000 fans to join the online streaming concert and came prepared with a 10 GBs bandwidth to anticipate heavy load.

The live-streaming experience itself was interesting. There were 5 cameras available for people to choose their best angle for the concert. While enjoying the show, people could also leave a comment through Facebook or see what others are tweeting on Twitter. These social features were all integrated within the concert page. Fans could also buy the songs online via LangitMusik.com, an online music store from Telkomsel, a sponsor.

This show is definitely marking a new trend in Indonesian music industry. While most are enjoying music concerts on TV, MusikKamu.com provides a new experience for music fans in Indonesia. As live-streaming video requires a high bandwidth, it was interesting to see some fans tweeting that they were willing to spend some hours at Internet cafe to watch their beloved band online.

With a growing number of Internet users in Indonesia (and most of them are accessing it from Internet cafe), online music concerts have huge potential in the country. MusikKamu.com put on its Twitter profile that it planned to bring more bands on live-streaming and launch its complete version on August 2011.
