6 kinds of players you will meet in Diretide

I know Diretide is ‘just a Dota 2 event’, but be aware that this is serious business for some people. Some Diretide games have more rage than regular Dota 2 games. In the wake of the community throwing a massive tantrum,Valve did ‘give Diretide’ along with the Three Spirits Update. Since the event is a different mode than what players are used to, prepare to meet a variety of people that you won’t commonly find in regular matchmaking games. Here are the different kinds of players that you will meet as you enter the better-late-than-never Dota 2 Halloween patch.

1. That guy who knows nothing

There are two different sub-categories for this guy, with one result: both types know nothing. There’s the one who knows that this is a new event, but did not care and did not read up. Instead, he chose to just experience everything because experience is the best teacher, right? And then there’s the guy who thought he queued for regular matchmaking, only to be plunged into an event he wasn’t aware of until it happened. You can almost imagine him say “What is this ‘Diretide’ you speak of?”

This guy will try attacking people even if you agreed to co-op. He will not get candy or he will get candy except he won’t put it in the pot. He will try to lane and push towers. He will ask you what is going on. He might complain about what kind of Dota he’s playing right now or about how crappy this game mode is. If you have the patience to spare, don’t flame. 2. That guy who knows everything

This guy will speak as early as pre-game. He will ask you about co-op and should you agree, he will proceed to tell you which heroes to pick and what items to build. He will tell you what to do with your skills, who builds what, and how many of which item to get. Whether you are going for burst magic damage or physical damage, he already has it all planned out. There is no guarantee that his strategies will work, but, hey, it’s better than chaos, right? No? Okay.

3. That guy who tries to bring everyone together

This is always the one person who says “Guys, don’t fight!”whenever you start flaming each other. He’s also the one who says “Okay, guys! We can do this! We can do this!” before the game starts, when the game starts, and before you start to face Roshan. This positivity can go a long way, but can also earn the rage of the already angry people if overdone.

4. That guy who smells something fishy

For some reason, this guy cannot trust other people. I’m not sure whether it’s because of a previous Dota 2 betrayal he’s experienced, but the slightest mistake can lead to him declaring an all-out killing spree to end to the co-op agreement. Of course, his hyper sensitivity will lead him to accusing you of breaking the agreement first, either by attacking or killing his teammates or simply because there isn’t enough candy in the pot.
