Homefoodies – the Foodpanda for Talented Homemakers

Since August 2014, Foodpanda grew 100% and yet comments on Karachi & Lahore Food Diary reflect falling standards in quality & hygiene from various big name eateries. To counter this problem, a troupe of Lahore have banded together to rely on quality sensitive chefs known as moms, wives and sisters. We spoke to Muhammad Naeem, the co-creator of the solution.

When did you start and what problem are you solving?
We started working on Homefoodies in February 2015. We are solving basically two problems of society: preference for hygienic food and giving opportunity to the women to start earning while staying at home. Women will actually make the buyers of food meet women who actually cook great food through our mobile apps and web platform. Our intellectual property will be our Trademark and copyrights. Yes our revenue model is scalable.

What one thing is your company designed to be best in the world at?
Our company will solve the one of the biggest problems in the world. Every where we go in the world we face a problem of unhygienic food and in most countries women are not socially and professionally very active. Mostly women all around the world , cook great food. So we will make such a platform where they can sell and earn better by providing hygienic food to the buyer.

How do you make a decision when your team disagrees?
Whenever there is situation where my team disagrees with me, I start by listening to the facts they present. The final decision is measured by the quality of the argument, which is backed by measurable data and secondary insights or experiences. As we have to work together it is very necessary to make them involved and motivated, so convincing them becomes my priority.

How do you spend your typical day, and what makes you happy?
As I am a student and also a freelance programmer, having skills in mobile phone application development, desktop app development and system architecture, most of my day is spent in working. I set little goals for achieving something. Completing these goals and making a product as i dreamed about it, really makes me happy. I think that is the most satisfying thing to me, that I achieve the goals i set and dream about.

What is the most important issue facing your company that we should be talking about? What have you done so far to show that you’re making progress?
The most important issue we are facing is scamming and fraud issues as there is no proper verified payment gateways in Pakistan. We are still constructing our web platform and mobile apps to launch. We have done the market analysis and gathered a good database from Lahore and Karachi.
