MyCityWays Gains 150,000+ Indian Downloads in 2 Months

Update: Good point by Api (see comment). Thanks pal. Title changed to “Downloads” instead of “Users.”

mycityway-logoFounded by three Indians in November 2009, MyCityWays is a New York-based start-up which provides localized city guides across 60+ international cities on iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry smartphones.

The guides allow users to find local restaurants, shops, hospitals, events, parking locations, utility services, WiFi locations and much more — you can find almost any damn thing from a single mobile application (iTunes link).

Vignesh Rengasamy, the India representative for MyCityWays told Penn Olson that the team recently launched MyCityWays in five major cities in India – Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. The real news is that within two months the app has attracted over 150,000 downloads – and the number just keeps growing.

Rengasamy says that there are plans to build on their India success by introducing another 11 major cities in the country to the smartphone guide by the end of 2011. That’s a very aggressive expansion. But the India team has over 40 employees to support its plan. Plus, MyCityWays will also be launching a Symbian version of the app very soon.

Besides India, MyCityWays also offers its service in Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo. Rengasamy reveals that more Asian cities will also be included soon. I also learned that Singapore is one of countries where MyCityWays is planning to launch its mobile app service. We’re not sure how popular MyCityWays guides are in other parts of Asia. But be sure we’ll be shooting some tough questions over to MyCityWays to find out more about its plans in this region. Stay tuned.
