Indocomtech and Jakarta Game Show Promise Gadgets, Quidditch, and Networking

In less than two months from now, the Jakarta Convention Center in Indonesia will host two big events side by side – Indocomtech and the Jakarta Game Show. Indocomtech 2012 is an IT exhibition which will put hundreds of local vendors and global brands on display. While the Jakarta Game Show will attract gamers to come and experience a mix of new and familiar titles. Both exhibitions will be held October 31st to November 4th, 2012.

Indocomtech is one of the biggest IT exhibitions in the country, just like the Indonesia Cellular Show which is run by the same organizer, Dyandra Promosindo. Major brands like HP, Asus, Canon, and Nikon will participate in this exhibition. Special discounts are what make Indocomtech more appealing to the public. Last year’s exhibition, saw 210,603 people visit, creating a ticket transactions record of Rp630 billion (over $65 million).

Indocomtech 2012’s theme is “Connect to the Future” which focuses on the usage of IT in ways that have not even been imagined before. This event will be the place to launch and preview new products to be marketed in the first quarter of 2013.

At the same time, the Jakarta Game Show will be the place for local game developers to showcase their talents. The exhibitor list is still not finalized, but lots of attractions have been planned out already. There’ll also be fun things for visitors to play around with: you can test your guts by entering the haunted house called the Dungeon of Demons, and play Harry Potter’s game in a field replica of Quidditch. Plus, there’ll be game competitions across all types of titles and platforms; and for families with children, the organizers have prepared a kids play area.

For educational purposes, the organizer has partnerships with universities like Bina Nusantara University and Multimedia Nusantara University. Together they will host the Game Museum at this year’s exhibition. You can learn about gaming history from the recent past, and read up on the latest developments.

Taking a cultural angle, the show has also teamed up with the Indonesia Game Developer Association to create a special area to introduce local and traditionally-themed games. In this ‘Local Game Developer Zone’ Indonesian game developers will be able to showcase some more culturally-minded creations. It’s time for local developers to shine.
