Report: Indian gig marketplace Urban Company raises $190m in new round

“After raising money from Tiger Global, Vy Capital, and Steadview, Urban Company has just raised close to US$190 million in a new round led by Prosus,” Entrackr reported, citing regulatory filings.

Details:

  • Urban Company, an Indian gig marketplace, has allotted 2,613 equity shares and 50,490 series F preference shares at 265,553.1 rupees (about US$3,556) apiece to raise US$188 million. Fintrackr estimates that Urban Company has reached a post-money valuation close to US$2 billion.
  • Prosus led the round with a US$61.9 million injection, while DF International and Wellington Management poured in US$36.8 million and US$33.2 million, respectively.

Context:

  • Urban Company is the 12th startup in India to have reached unicorn status this year, following companies such as Chargebee, PharmEasy, Cred, and Meesho.
  • The startup currently operates in over 24 Indian cities, as well as in Sydney, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Riyadh, with over 25,000 professionals on its platform.
