Singapore isn’t known for making great games. This studio can change that.

Sure, Singapore hosts the offices of some of the world’s top gaming studios, like Ubisoft and LucasArts. But it’s never really been known to nurture homegrown talents who produce world-class hardcore games.

A local gaming studio, however, could very well change that. Witching Hours Studio is close to releasing Masquerada: Songs And Shadows, a role-playing game that’s like a slower-paced, more tactical version of Diablo.

It has just successfully completed its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, surpassing the target of US$65,000. It has won the support of Ken Levine, a prominent game developer known for titles like BioShock and System Shock 2.

“I was surprised I had never heard of this game because it looked so cool but I was bummed out because it had only raised half of what it was looking for, so I backed it, tweeted about and helped support it,” he told Forbes.

The game features a strong cast of voice actors like Matthew Mercer (Fallout 4) and Felicia Day (Dragon Age 2), who’ll give life to its 500-page script. The company has been featured in well-known gaming publications like Polygon and Gamespot, who’ve praised its art direction and story-driven approach.

Masquerada is an ambitious undertaking by Witching Hours, which to date has only produced mobile games. It’s looking at a release date between late July and early August for both PC and PS4. In the meantime, you can download a demo on Steam.
