iCarpenters Rejoice: All Your Measuring Needs On Your iPhone!
iHandy Carpenter is an app introduced by Beijing app development firm, iHandy Soft. The app is made for folks who need to measure things such as angle, length, or check if something is level. The app isn’t the complete package for carpenters nor it is more precise then the proper tools. But it is very convenient because you have five tools right on your iPhone when you might not be carrying the real ones.
Measuring whether something is level using iPhone seems sensible but I’m a little skeptical on how folks can use it to measure length. But I tried the app and sure enough it is able to do it pretty smoothly. All you have to do is “stitch” up the length of the iPhone on each swipe. You can’t measure things up to the decimal level but it is good enough for a rough measurement. It’s a little hard to explain, but the video below will help you understand what I meant better:
The protractor looks like a good tool to have when playing pool or snooker. Oh, and the bubble level bar also tells me that the floor of my house is built 5.5º off level (see below).
The app costs $1.99 which is pretty neat considering it has five measuring tools in it. But it also serves a very niche market — only for people who need to measure things regularly. For me, I downloaded the app out of curiosity. You can do the same here (iTunes link) or download the free bubble balance app here to get a feel on how it works.
