Last week, South Korean MMORPG Icarus hit open beta. Then, things got a little crazy. Apparently, developer Wemade didn’t quite anticipate the interest Korean players had in the game, and over the weekend the servers were completely full, with queues of 500-1000 players waiting to get in on virtually every server. The beta peaked at more than 60,000 players online at once, and even with the server issues, it was enough to make Icarus the fifth-most-played game in Korean internet cafes this past weekend, surpassing popular MMORPGs Blade & Soul and Aion.
Apparently, the game still has some serious issues with bugs, which makes the fact that it was able to attract so many players even more impressive. A representative from Wemade has said that the company is working to expand its servers and to fix the bugs, but it seems clear that Wemade won’t have too much trouble getting players to give it another shot.
Icarus, for those that don’t know, is a fantasy MMORPG. The game will ultimately include six playable classes (there are five in the current beta) and both PVP and PVE modes (PVP is currently not available).
