Hello there,
The SGX Centre, which houses Singapore’s stock exchange, is right in the heart of the central business district. I’ve been there a few times: You can take a long escalator up from the ground floor to enter, passing a row of electronic boards flickering with the latest market prices.
It’s quite the experience.
Sadly, Singapore’s stock market hasn’t been in the pink of health lately. However, that may change in 2025 as the government is studying how to revive the city-state’s equities market.
Some tech startups like SCI Ecommerce may turn to SGX as a venue for their IPOs. But you likely need to look toward West Asia and North Asia to find the biggest venues for stock market debuts in the region this year.
On average, tech companies that went public in India and China in 2024 outperformed the median returns for all new listings in those markets during the same period. This has attracted the attention of startup founders and investors, who want to get a good valuation on their shares as well as enjoy strong post-IPO performance.
Yet there are many consumer tech players from Southeast Asia that have the potential to IPO in 2025 and the years ahead. Indeed, consultancy firm RedSeer have identified 50 such companies – many of them will list in their home markets, although some will continue to be lured by the US.
I examine all this and more in this week’s story. All aboard the Asia tech IPO train!
