Razer CEO only does ice bucket challenge now, but for a good reason

The ice bucket challenge for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) petered out a couple of months back, but that hasn’t stopped Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan from picking it up.

In a Facebook post last night, Tan wrote that he didn’t go with his initial nomination because he felt many people were doing the challenge for fun rather than its true motive: to raise awareness for ALS.

However, he decided to go ahead with it when he received a note from a fan in China who runs the Baidu Razer forum. At time of posting, the Baidu Razer forum has about 38,000 users.

The fan in question, Feiran Song, has voluntarily run the forum for more than seven years. He is also an ALS sufferer. Tan spoke more to Song and found out that one of his biggest wishes was to visit the Razer headquarters. He invited Song to visit a design center, and was also presented with a Razer Blade laptop. Chatting with Song taught Tan more about ALS, spurring him to finally do his ice bucket challenge.

Along with its CEO getting dunked with icy water, Razer will be donating US$10,000 to the ALS Association.

Tan rounded up his Facebook post by saying he hopes gamers out there will give back to the community in one way or another.
