Tin Pei Ling, the Singapore politician who joined Grab earlier this year, has left the company. In a LinkedIn post, Tin wrote that she will be taking a “more external-facing and commercial” position at an unnamed fintech firm starting October 1.
She added that the position is a leadership role in strategic partnerships and business development.
“I am excited that this new role will give me the opportunity to support the company’s product innovation efforts and expansion into key Asia Pacific markets,” shared Tin, who is an elected member of Singapore parliament.
Tin served as director of corporate development at Grab, a shift from her initial role at the firm of director of public affairs. A Grab spokesperson told Tech in Asia that she had made “valuable contributions” to key projects during her time with the company.
“We fully support Pei Ling’s aspiration to take on a more front-facing role and look forward to her continued championing of tech innovation in Singapore,” said the spokesperson.
Tin’s appointment at Grab was met with scrutiny from the public, with some citing concerns on potential conflicts of interest. When Tin’s change in position was announced, Grab said that she would not be involved in policy work and would not represent the company in meetings with government officials.
