Zilliqa Capital will invest in Zilliqa’s native utility token ZIL as a strategic asset, the new firm said in a statement. It will also selectively invest in Zilliqa and relevant non-Zilliqa-based businesses.
Based in London and Singapore, Zilliqa is a public blockchain platform known for use of sharding as an on-chain solution to preserve decentralization and enable greater scalability.
Zilliqa Capital said it plans to operate as a “permanent capital and ecosystem-focused investment company,” bankrolling decentralized and fintech solutions across investing, wealth management, insurance, lending, payments, and remittances, and infrastructures that will enable Web 3.0.
Financial services veteran Michael Conn will serve as the firm’s chairman, CEO, and co-chief investment officer. Prior to Zilliqa Capital, he held leadership positions at AllianceBernstein, Société Générale, Trust Company of the West, AsiaVest Partners, and Quail Creek Ventures.
Conn was also the co-founder, CEO, and director of Ether Capital, a publicly traded Ethereum-focused company.
Amrit Kumar, Zilliqa Research blockchain’s co-founder, president, and chief scientific officer, will also serve as Zilliqa Capital’s co-chief investment officer and director.
“At Zilliqa Capital, we are firm believers in the long-term, life-changing potential of blockchain technology, reflected in our support for promising projects striving to serve the unbanked and underbanked across Southeast Asia and India,” said Conn.
