The story of Alpha JWC Ventures: One of Southeast Asia’s rising VC firms (Infographic)
Indonesia has become a significant figure in Southeast Asia’s tech and startup ecosystem. Aside from being home to several tech unicorns, the country’s startups raised US$9.4 billion in 2021, almost three times the $3.42 billion raised a year earlier. Indonesian VC firms have also been actively investing, driving further growth in the industry.
One key player in the space is Alpha JWC Ventures, Indonesia’s first independent and institutional VC firm. What began as a small firm with just three general partners in 2015 has evolved into the investment corporation it is today.
The firm closed its third fund in November 2021, at US$450 million, making it the biggest early-stage VC fund in the region. It also invested over US$80 million across 29 deals in 2021, and saw four unicorns emerge from its portfolio companies in the same year, after just seven years of operations. The firm also currently manages 27 centaur startups, which have valuations of between US$100 million and US$1 billion.
