GungHo and Grasshopper Manufacture's PS4 debut Lily Bergamo to see US release?
Lily Bergamo, the first PS4 game from developer Grasshopper Manufacture and publisher GungHo Online (which acquired Grasshopper Manufacture earlier this year), looks like it may be coming to next-gen consoles outside of Japan. Although no version of the game has yet been announced except for the Japanese version, tech blog Siliconera noticed earlier today that Gungho has filed a trademark for the name Lily Bergamo in the US, a sign that the Japanese game is likely to find its way to America. The trademark, which was filed on September 30, is public information and can be viewed here.
Lily Bergamo is the latest game from Goichi Suda, also known as Suda51. Suda is often considered something of a cult designer; his portfolio includes games like No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw that attracted some critical praise and cult worship but never impressed much in terms of sales. Whether Lily Bergamo will be the game to change that remains to be seen. At the Tokyo Game Show, Suda said that it would also be possible for players to play in the game’s world on their smartphones, but how exactly that will work is still anyone’s guess.
Here’s a trailer for the game with English simultaneous interpretation voiced over the actual trailer audio so that non-Japanese-speakers can still follow it. It doesn’t reveal much about the game, which is coming to Japan in 2014, but I have to say from what little we can see it sounds pretty cool to me.
