Beta Cafe: A Great Place in Beijing for Entrepreneurs to Meet

Following the post I wrote about about Garage Cafe being a good place for entrepreneurs, I received mixed reactions from juniors from Young Entrepreneurs Association of NUS (YEAN) that the place was stuffy and smelly — even though Willis and I thought otherwise. They urged us to visit Beta Cafe, which they claimed was much a better place to work from. But as I write this, I am extremely annoyed with smoking patrons and the lack of extension cords available in Beta. Even Willis has his shirt covering half of his face right now.

I’ve been to Beta (see more photos below) for a couple of meetings prior, but didn’t think it was as ideal a place to work from compared to Garage. It has a similar concept of wanting to play host to entrepreneurs, but in my opinion, it positions itself more as a meeting place to discuss and bounce ideas off each other.

It is housed in the same building where Innovation Works used to be. Unlike Garage, it doesn’t provide printing, scanning, and photocopying services, but has free internet available. It’s a pretty popular place for entrepreneurs and startups to hold meetings, and it has curtains to segregate portions of the cafe so you can have a secluded area to hold your meetings and group gatherings. In fact, one of the Ideas for Singapore events was held here, in which Teo Ser Luck, Singapore’s minister and chairman of the Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE) was invited to discuss insights on entrepreneurship.

Beta is one of the three popular entrepreneurial-themed cafe located within the Zhongguancun area, and the last one that Willis and I have yet to visit is 3W Cafe. Maybe we’ll visit when our schedules allow, so stay tuned! Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a place to hold group gatherings if you’re visiting Beijing, the address is as below (and see it on Baidu maps). You can also follow Beta Cafe on Weibo here.

Address:

Haidian District,
No. 66 Bei Si Huan Xi Lu
