Traveloka, the Southeast Asia-focused travel unicorn, has axed employees as part of what it describes as a “workforce evolution” toward “capabilities, technology, and long-term growth.”
“While these decisions are difficult and involve role reductions, they allow us to invest where it matters most for customers and long-term growth,” a Traveloka spokesperson said in a statement to Tech in Asia.
The spokesperson added that the company will continue to hire across a wide range of roles, particularly in AI, data, product, and engineering.
“We are grateful for the contributions of our colleagues who are impacted and are committed to supporting them,” the spokesperson said further.
Traveloka did not disclose how many employees or which teams were affected by the move. The firm had previously carried out what sources described as a “silent layoff” in 2023.
The latest job cuts come as Traveloka remains a private company five years after canceling its planned SPAC listing in 2021. To date, it has not announced a timeline to revive its IPO plans.
According to Tech in Asia’s layoff tracker, more than 118,000 workers across India, Southeast Asia, and China have been retrenched since the first half of 2022. Post-series C firms have recorded the highest number of job cuts in these markets as businesses face pressure to achieve profitability.
Founded in Jakarta in 2012, Traveloka recently moved its headquarters to Singapore. Its core operations, however, remain in Indonesia.
In 2025, the company expanded its presence in Asia by venturing into Japan. Traveloka has existing operations in Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
