Grab has onboarded Tin Pei Ling, a Singapore politician, as its director of public affairs and policy in the city-state.
Tin, who’s been a member of parliament (MP) since 2011, joined Grab in January.
Grab told Bloomberg that Singapore MPs can take roles in the private sector and assured that it had “clear rules of engagement” to avoid conflicts of interest.
In a statement to Tech in Asia, Grab said: “Pei Ling has deep on-ground understanding of digital economy policy, and close ties with the local community. She will build partnerships and programmes to harness the positive potential of technology to create impact in Singapore.”
Prior to this appointment, Tin helmed Business China – a nonprofit led by the Singapore government and the city-state’s Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry – for five years.
She is currently MP for MacPherson, a single-member constituency located in the central area of Singapore. Tin is also chairperson for the government parliamentary committee for communications and information.
She is married to Ng How Yue, one of the top government officials in Singapore and a former principal private secretary to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
