Uber now has 630,000 drivers across Asia from a global total of 2 million, said Andrew Macdonald, the ride-hailing firmโs general manager for Latin America and Asia-Pacific, in conversation today with Tech in Asia.
The new figure comes ahead of Uberโs launch in Cambodia. โTeams on the ground are preparing to launch there,โ said Macdonald, without revealing a start date.

Uber is working with authorities for its Cambodia debut โ as it did earlier in the year before the serviceโs May rollout in Myanmar. That marked a softer and more collaborative entry than Uber has done in the past, seeking to fend off regulatory speed bumps further down the road.
Uber was last month spotted testing in Cambodia, running a limited number of cars under a system where riders need to enter an invite code.
Disclosure: Uber this week sponsored the visit to its Hong Kong office.
