In brief: General Atlantic, Tencent pump additional $11.4m into India’s edtech unicorn
- Private equity firm General Atlantic and Chinese internet company Tencent have invested an additional 800 million rupees (US$11.4 million) in Think and Learn, the owner and operator of edtech platform Byju’s Learning. The firm’s valuation is believed to have reached US$4 billion.
- The latest cash infusion comes about three months after Byju’s closed a US$540 million equity financing round led by Naspers Ventures.
- In December 2018, General Atlantic invested close to 2 billion rupees (US$28.5 million) in Byju’s. It also reportedly spent about 3.7 billion rupees (US$52.8 million) in acquiring shares from Byju’s co-founder Riju Raveendran and Sequoia Capital in a secondary transaction.
