Aspiring entrepreneur? Join Startup Guide Singapore at its launch party!

Revered as an international economic center, Singapore’s startup ecosystem has quickly become a trailblazer in Southeast Asia. Forbes named it the eighth best place in the world for business and the Global Entrepreneurship Index gave it the highest possible ratings for growth, process innovation and internationalization.
International conglomerates such as Apple, BMW, Sony, and Microsoft have relocated their headquarters to Singapore, with Dyson most recently moving its corporate head office to the country as well.
Unsurprisingly, startups are following suit, and choosing to base their businesses in the city state. According to the Compass Global Startup Ecosystem Report, the country’s startup ecosystem was ranked 12th in the world – and in 2016, 15 percent of the 4,300 tech startups in Singapore were global startups.
The Lion City’s startup scene is not showing signs of slowing down
Singapore is home to over 40,000 local startups, and several unicorns such as Grab, Lazada, and Sea Group. The country has also attracted strong investor interest. In 2017, the Lion City closed more than US$1 billion in VC deals, with investment activities set to remain robust in the future.
Beyond startup and VC connections, there are plenty of opportunities to co-innovate with government agencies and MNCs. In its recent Budget 2019 speech, the Singapore government revealed it set aside US$74 million for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The fund, dubbed SME Co-Investment Fund III, will be co-invested into startups alongside venture capital firms and private-sector investors.
The country’s tech community is also vibrant and abuzz with activities, with plenty of startup events and conferences to connect stakeholders in the ecosystem across a plethora of verticals including entrepreneurship, investing, product management, engineering, and more.
