Grab to open up in-house mapping solution as B2B service
Southeast Asian super app Grab is offering its mapping data and tools to businesses that need location-based services.
The ride-hailing and delivery major has launched B2B solutions under GrabMaps, which it plans to sell to government agencies and businesses in the technology, logistics, and telecommunications sectors.

The services under GrabMaps will enable companies to use data on places, roads, traffic, and street-level images collected by Grab. GrabMaps also offers tools that businesses can use to build their own maps and create mobile apps that use Grab’s navigation and traffic features.
The mapping technology was first developed for in-house use and is based on contributions from consumers, merchants, and the company’s driver and delivery partners.
Today, GrabMaps is being used in seven out of the company’s eight markets. Grab said it aims to solely rely on GrabMaps for all of its location services needs in every country it operates in by the third quarter of 2022.
The company has invested in the technology to improve driving efficiency and cut costs, said Grab co-founder Tan Hooi Ling.
“Commercializing this technology is another step forward for our young but fast-growing enterprise and new initiatives business,” she added.
