ChatGPT-4 is here and OpenAI is betting that it’s the smartest version so far.
GPT-4 has a broader general knowledge and problem solving abilities, the company said in a research paper that was released alongside the chatbot. The paper showed that the latest model beat 90% of bar exam takers.
It turns out that GPT-4 is not new. Microsoft’s corporate vice president Jordi Ribas said in a tweet that the model Bing was using for AI search, called Prometheus, was GPT-4.
OpenAI also said its team spent six months making its generative AI product safer by incorporating more human feedback and working with 50 experts in AI safety and security.
However, some users have concerns regarding the chatbot’s limitations. But the company noted that details like model size, training method, hardware, and dataset construction can’t be disclosed amid “the competitive landscape and the safety implications of large-scale models like GPT-4.”
The paper reminded people to use GPT-4’s outputs with “great care” because the AI model still “makes reasoning errors” and has a tendency to “hallucinate”, meaning “produce content that is nonsensical or untruthful in relation to certain sources.”
OpenAI is now a capped-profit company that looks to “build safe artificial general intelligence and share the benefits with the world.” Nearly four years after OpenAI’s shift from being a non-profit, Microsoft committed US$10 billion into it.
ChatGPT-3 has caused a global sensation since November 2022, attracting the biggest names in tech from both the US and China.
But with speed, costly mistakes are bound to happen. Last month, Bard slipped up and cost Google US$100 billion in market share.
