“Grab will raise its current base fare of S$2.50 (US$1.88) by S$1 (US$0.75) across most of its transport offerings from June 1,” The Business Times reported.
Details:
- The increase in base fare is Grab’s first since 2017. It addresses complaints from drivers and tripartite partners that the company’s services have not kept pace with the rising costs to allow drivers to continue providing their services.
- The fare revision will apply to all of Grab’s transport services in Singapore except for Standard Taxi, GrabHitch, and GrabCoach. The company will also provide consumers with S$1 (US$0.75) vouchers for peak-hour rides from June 1 to 14.
Context:
- The company has also introduced additional incentives for drivers who complete food, grocery, or parcel deliveries in high-demand areas. The drivers receive fixed-value rebates based on the total number of transport and delivery jobs they finish.
- In November 2020, Grab said it would add a platform fee of about S$0.30 (US$0.23) to its ride-hailing services. In comparison, other ride-hailing firms such as Gojek and Ryde have platform fees of up to S$0.70 (US$0.53).
