Less than a year after her appointment as Lazada Group CEO, Lucy Peng is passing on the baton to Pierre Poignant, one of the company’s co-founders.
Poignant will assume the role of CEO immediately. He will “lead the development of new growth pillars” and continue to manage Lazada’s operations in Southeast Asia.
The ecommerce giant said the move is “part of the group’s succession plans.” Peng, a co-founder of Lazada’s parent Alibaba, will stay on as Lazada’s executive chair.
Poignant launched Lazada alongside its former CEO Maximilian Bittner during their Rocket Internet days.
Prior to this shuffle, Poignant was promoted to executive president in August.
Bittner stepped down from his post and moved to a new role as senior advisor to Alibaba when Peng took over in March. Bittner has just been appointed CEO by French luxury goods e-tailer Vestiaire Collective.
